SLGA Evergreen Challenge 2008

23rd Women’s World Amateur Team Championship

8 to 11 October 2008

The SLGA juniors will be participating in this event for the first time. Christabel Goh, Stephanie Loi and Koh Sock Hwee will be representing us at Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia. We wish them all the best.

2008 Taiwan Amateur Golf Championship

2 to 5 September 2008

The greens at Sunrise Golf and Country Club proved to be a tough course for the SLGA juniors during the 2008 Taiwan Amateur Golf Championship earlier this month. In the team event, Christabel Goh and Stephanie Loi came in fourth out of five teams, with a total gross of 648. The Taiwanese team emerged champion with their score of 592.

In the individual event, Hsieh Yu-Ling played well to finish with a 285 gross. On the home front, Kok Jo Ee was 16th with a score of 318 gross; Christabel 17th with 322; Nicole Koh 18th with 322 and Stephanie Loi 20th with 326.

Junior Ranking Medal

Held at the Orchid Country Club on 4 September, the 22nd Junior Ranking Medal saw Natalie Koh top the scoreboards with a 74 gross off the white tee. Kristle Koh was second with a 76 gross. The roles were reversed the next day at the 23rd Junior Ranking Medal at Sentosa Golf Club’s Tanjong Course. Kristle took top spot with an 80 gross off the white tee while Natalie followed with an 83 gross.

Queen Sirikit Cup 2008

28 to 30 May 2008

By the time you read this, the Singapore team represented by Christabel Goh, Stephanie Loi and Kok Jo Ee would have already gone through three rounds in the Queen Sirikit Cup 2008.

On 28 May, the team met Korea and Malaysia. New Zealand and Malaysia will play off against two of the ladies the next day, while another will play against Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Catch up on the latest updates at www.jga.or.jp.


7th National Inter-School Golf Championships

21 to 22 May 2008

While most school girls are busy hanging out or shopping at malls, the SLGA youngsters are busy pitting their skills against like-minded peers at the recent 7th National Inter-School Golf Championship.

And they did us proud by doing well in the competition. Kok Jo Ee successfully defended her title and won the Girls B Division title with a total score of 144 over two days. Kristle Koh came in first in the Girls A Division and Phoebe Tan won the Girls C Division. The tournament is a qualifier for the ASEAN Combined Schools Golf Championship.

Junior Ranking Medal

Held on 23 April, the 18th Junior Ranking Medal took place at Seletar Country Club with Koh Sock Hwee delivering the best score of the day. She played 77 off the white tee. Deborah Lee had the second best score of 78 (gross).

29th Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship

Held at Sherwood Hills Golf Club, Cavite, Philippines, from 5 to 9 May, the Asia-Pacific Junior Golf Championship saw junior golfers below 18 years battle it out on the greens. Representing Singapore were SLGA juniors Deborah Lee, Joey Poh and Kok Jo Ee.

The three girls did well with Kok Jo Ee emerging 2nd Runner Up and Joey Poh 3rd Runner Up in the B Division. The overall champion went to Juntanugarn Moriya from Thailand with a gross score of 214. In the team event, Singapore beat Malaysia to come in 5th (out of 8 countries) with a combined score of 474. Thailand emerged champions with a combined score of 424.

2008 MasterCard Junior Masters

Joey Poh represented the SLGA at the 2008 MasterCard Junior Masters for junior golfers below 18 years. Held at The Vines Resort and Country Club in Perth, Australia, the even took place from 20 to 23 May. Her brother, Johnson Poh, was there as well as a representative of the SGA.

Aiming For SEA Level

The SLGA has sent the Singapore National Olympic Council a Letter of Appeal to include the ladies’ team in this year’s SEA games. We are still awaiting their response.

 

Junior Pro-Am Invitational Qualifier

The SLGA was invited by AIA Singapore and the Asian Seniors Tour to participate in the Junior Pro-Am Invitational Qualifier on 10 September 2007. Held at Jurong Country Club, the qualifier was held in conjunction with the AIA Singapore Asian Senior Masters 2007.

Our leading junior golfers participated in the event. Juniors from other clubs were also invited to take part in the event at no cost. The top three junior girls and top six junior boys qualified for the AIA Singapore Private Invitational Pro-Am event held on 13 September 2007.

SLGA Rules Workshop

On the Saturday of 18 November 2006, members of five local clubs – Seletar Country Club, Sembawang Country Club, Warren Golf & Country Club, Singapore Island Country Club and Orchid Country Club – were invited to refresh their understanding of the rules of golf in the Rules Workshop organised by the SLGA.

The Rules Official was Orchid Country Club’s General Manager, Mr Dennis Tan, who is also a qualified Royal & Ancient Rules Official. For those who have missed out on this workshop, look out for the next one as the SLGA would be organising another Rules Workshop for the other clubs in early 2007.
