UPDATES - 2011
| SLGA Champion of Champions 2011 |
| Batam, Indonesia from 20th to 21st June 2011 |
|
This year, the SLGA Champion of Champions cum Social Event was held at Batam, Indonesia from June 20 and 21. A total of 35 ladies comprising 6 Champions from our local clubs and 29 social players from the various clubs participated in this event.
The Champion of Champions Event was played at Southlinks Country Club and the winner was 18 year old Ms Charlotte Thomas from SICC who shot a gross of 76.
All the golfers were pampered with excellent services provided by the management and staff of Southlinks. The registration was fast and efficient. Each participant was allocated a locker with her personal name with the SLGA logo displayed at the door of the locker. A frangipani flower was placed on a bath towel in the locker. Service was impeccable.
On the course, complimentary sandwiches, fruits and ice-tea were delivered to the players while they played into the heat of the afternoon, much to the surprise and delight of the ladies. Other novelties like nearest to the pin and lucky draws were included. Group and individual flight photographs were captured and shown on the screen during lunch.
While the Champions of the Clubs battled it out for the crown of Champion of Champions for 2011, the other supporters and social golfers also enjoyed a mini stableford stress-free tournament to make their trip more exciting. We were also very honoured and fortunate to play in some of challenging holes that were reserved for major events and these were specially opened up for us on this special tournament. The Southlinks Course was scenic, well-maintained and challenging. The lady caddies were polite and well trained. After the game, the lunch at the clubhouse was simple but the food was delightful.
At the closing of Day One, 15 golfers left for home and the balance 20 adjourned to indulge in some Indonesian massage and shopping. We then went for a delicious seafood dinner at Golden Prawn 555 Restaurant where we savoured Indonesian cuisine from the fresh seafood we purchased. This dinner was sponsored by SLGA.
We stayed overnight at Novotel Hotel for a good rest before we engaged in another round of social golf at Batam Hills where another round of mini tournament was arranged and played in a blind partnership format.
We were thankful for the good weather that allowed us to continue to enjoy our games with great company for 2 days. It was lots of fun and laughter and great camaraderie amongst the ladies. New friendships were made and old ones, further forged.
My personal thanks to Southlinks who made this trip a successful and memorable outing for SLGA. My thanks also go to the ladies who have supported this annual event. Thank you!
